Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Zambezia Aquaculture, sustainability isn’t a feature of our farm — it is the foundation of everything we do. Our entire operation is built as a circular ecosystem where nothing is wasted and every by-product becomes a valuable resource.

A Closed-Loop
Farming Cycle

We use a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) that drastically reduces water use while creating a controlled, healthy environment for our fish. Water is continuously filtered, reused, and enriched, ensuring minimal impact on Lake Kariba.

Turning Waste Into Natural Protein

Organic waste and invasive water hyacinth are transformed into Black Soldier Fly larvae, producing a clean, sustainable protein source that replaces conventional fish feed and reduces the impact of the community on the Lakes ecosystem. By doing so we protect Biodiversity and reduce the CO2 footprint and do conservation in an ecosystem that is under outside preassur.

Aquaponics & Zero Discharge

The nutrient-rich water from our fish tanks feeds our aquaponics system, where we grow fresh vegetables without chemicals or conventional fertilizer. This process ensures a true zero-discharge policy, keeping our environment clean and productive.

Protecting the Local Ecosystem

By integrating renewable practices, strict biosecurity, and responsible resource management, we support the long-term health of Lake Kariba, the surrounding community, and the region’s tourism industry.

We are not just protecting but reversing some of the impact male practices had in the past on the Lake.

At Zambezia Aquaculture, sustainability is more than a goal — it’s our promise to future generations.
